Celebrated annually on the last Saturday of April, the national event was established to honor and support independent bookstores for the unique service and opportunities they provide to lovers of the printed word.Now in its 5th year, the event will be fêted at more than 550 independent bookstores in 49 states across the the country! Each bookstore will mark the occasion in its own way–some with unique merchandise, contests, author visits, and more.

Stephen King, Lemony Snicket among the first

Heavyweights Stephen King, James Patterson, and Lemony Snicket were among the first authors to throw their support behind the nation’s independent bookstores in this national movement to raise awareness of the importance of local bookstores and the unique experience they provide.
