Course Description:
Take your first step in French at Camp Français with The Tales of Bun E. Boniface®!
Learn the language through story, art, and song! Using a multi-sensory approach, children will be immersed in the French language and culture using the instructor’s bilingual book/CD as the point of departure. They will learn to decode sounds and symbols into concepts relevant to their world. Age-appropriate skills and vocabulary will be reinforced through fun activities and exercises. A wonderful introduction to the joy of language, the sole prerequisite is a healthy curiosity and a desire to have fun while learning!
Course Objectives:
Children will learn to decode sounds and symbols into concepts that are relevant to their world. They will be exposed to a useful vocabulary of 40-some words, which they will use daily in varying ways to reinforce learning through their play and exercises. Children will take home their own copy of book and CD, allowing them to reinforce their learning at home long after the summer camp has ended, even if the parent or guardian speaks no French. This is a wonderful preparation for any child to experience the joy of language and communication while creating a foundation for future learning.
Student Appeal:
This introductory course is designed for the child that has had little to no exposure to the French language. Suitable for those whose first language is any other than French; the only prerequisite is a healthy curiosity and a desire to have fun while learning. This course would be of interest to parents who wish their child to have hands-on exposure to another language and culture, or those who might be planning a trip to France or a French-speaking country, or whose heritage is French, or who have French friends . . . or whose child is simply fascinated with France and/or the French language.
This course, created by Cynthia Wildridge in 2016, was offered to students at Southern Methodist University’s Summer Youth Camp on their Plano, Texas campus during the summers of 2016, 2017 and 2018.
